Day 6 · Act I — Lead Yourself

Purpose, Meaning and Personal Values

Values hierarchy · Purpose statement

~35 minutes

Purpose is the compass you consult when the map runs out.

The Core Idea

Act I closes with integration. Your values, triggers, habits and thinking patterns now point toward a question: what is your leadership for?

A purpose statement is not a slogan. It is a decision filter — a sentence that helps you say no. Leaders with clear purpose make faster, more consistent choices under ambiguity, because they are not renegotiating identity in every meeting.

The Mental Model

Values Hierarchy

Rank values so that when two conflict, you already know which wins.

At work: If 'candour' outranks 'harmony', you raise the uncomfortable risk in the board meeting rather than smoothing it over.

The Case Study

Tata's trusteeship model

DocumentedA large share of Tata Sons is held by philanthropic trusts, a structure long associated with the group's social commitments.

Interpretation: purpose embedded in ownership structure outlasts any one leader's tenure.
